I developed a passion for photography at the tender age of 11,
but nevertheless decided to play it safe and studied business engineering at the free university of brussels (vub),
where I worked after my studies as a research assistant. I then developed a fifteen-year career as management,
sales and marketing professional in a number of high tech entrepreneurial ventures.
a benign midlife crisis made me reassess my priorities, and in 1999 I became a part-time professional photographer for major belgian magazines and newspapers: weekend knack, p magazine, de morgen, grande, humo, de standaard ,.... I extended my reach by writing my own articles. I have had close to 100 publications over the last years, mainly travel destinations and colourful local events. One of my specialties is festivals and events. I covered the extensive belgian open-air music festival scene; the carnivals of salvador do bahia, brazil and aalst, belgium; the full moon party on koh pha-ngan, thailand; and burning man.
my photographs are recognized for their artistic value. I have held a number of exhibitions, and was included as part of the exhibition 'photography and society in belgium in the 20th century', at the prestigious museum of photography in charleroi, belgium. I recently exhibited my burning man photographs, printed in limited editions on large canvasses.
today I combine my photography/journalism with a job at the vrije universiteit brussel, where I lead a educational project on technology and entrepreneurship.
